Everyday Items for Your Home

I don’t have a lot of furniture - pretty much the basics. All my furniture is miss-matched - especially in the living & dinning rooms. All my furniture is hand-me-down & antique store finds, they are great solid pieces but all have different finishes and styles. I would love to be able to buy new furniture, but I simply cannot afford it at all.

My walls are currently white and I have wood floors and lots of great wood trim. I am seriously thinking of painting all my furniture a shade of white & adding white slip covers for my futon(aka the “sofa”) and recliner. I am also thinking about painting the walls a nice soft green or soft blue. I have great art and accessories to work with - just really missed-matched furniture. I’m just not sure if this look will improve what I have to work with or if it will look worse than before. I am an artist and I want my home to reflect who I am.

Do you all think it’s worth the risk? Any help with suggestions would be great.

I have had furniture sliders (the things you put under furniture to make the furniture just slide across the floor) under my washer for 5 years. I’ve changed them twice. Now all of a sudden the washer do not slide anymore. I went and bought new sliders, still wont slide, even waxed the floor, still won’t slide. Do anyone have any suggestions?

My husband and I are considering moving in with his parents for a few months in between apartments/getting a house.

We don’t have very much furniture. Our most valuable furniture is a sofa/loveseat set and a glass coffee table set.

We may be able to store our furniture in my grandparent in laws’ basement but we’re hesitant because of the small chance of water in the basement.

We feel that putting our furniture in storage is the safest bet. Do we need a climate controlled unit for just our couches and glass coffee tables? Our couches are microfiber and leather. I only ask because I have ono idea how out of control the temperature of the units that aren’t controlled get. We’re still making payments on the couches and really can’t risk them getting damaged.

Any input and suggestions about storing furniture is greatly appreciated!
I live in Connecticut. The winters can go below freezing and the summers can reach 100 degrees at the hottest.

Project #1 I recently added a new cherry colored computer desk & a bookcase in my study room. I have an old chair & a writing desk in that room that are maple finish. I want to stain the old furniture to match the shiny deep cherry finish of the new furniture.

Project #2 I also added an entertainment center, coffee table and a sofa table in the family room. Even though all furniture in this room is cherry color, the wood accents of the old sofa set look really dull in front of the shiny surfaces of new furniture. So, I want to re-finish the sofa-set to bring it on par with the shiny new items.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
